Sodium is essential for life, but getting too much in your diet can contribute to high blood pressure and causes the body to retain fluids. The American Heart Association recommends 2000 – 2400mg of sodium per day for the average healthy person. A teaspoon of salt contains about 2000mg of sodium, but since many foods contain sodium naturally, the use of a saltshaker or highly processed foods is not recommended. |
Most Kitchen Basics stocks are lightly salted containing less sodium than both regular and reduced sodium broths. New in 2008, we also offer the first ever unsalted chicken and beef stocks.
